My part of this story is over.

Some of you have spoken to me about writing about "what came next" or finishing stories about your character's past adventures... I think that's great. I love reading them.

If you want (and I need approval before I go ahead with this) I can take the cut scenes and stories you wrote and compile them into pdf or book format for you to keep. I'd need from you a) agreement, and b) short character synopsises (if you want them in). It would just be the short stories, cut scenes, and some character info (what I have or you give me) unless something else is requested.

Let me know if you want this and if so, what format.

Angel homeworld: The Outlands (Angel equivalent of Deadtown)

Matthieu leaned his head against the door as he fumbled with the lock.

"Sixteen hours on my feet," he thought to himself wearily. "I hope Brodie has better luck on his end. God, I feel like death warmed over..."

"How many lives y'got left Cat," came the voice in street-slang Angel. Matthieu raised his head, only to feel a gun barrel press into the base of his skull.

"One more than you do unless you put that thing away."

"Not a chance," came the guttural reply. "I'm collecting a little debt for someone you screwed over a few weeks ago. Does the name Sidas Morin mean anything to you?"

"He sent you to soliloquy me to death? Y'know, most people would have just sent flowers." Matthieu opened his senses, tensing himself to move the instant an opening appeared.

He felt the barrel jerk slightly in time to the faint whine of a laser pistol powering up.

"Leave him...a-lone." came the electronic voice from behind him.

The instant he felt the barrel leave his head he kicked his feet out to the side, allowing himself to fall to his hands. A brilliant flash struck the wall by his door. As the ground met his hands, he used the momentum of his fall to swing his right foot around, striking the would-be assassin behind the legs. His left leg swung up, then down onto the assassin's thighs as Matthieu shifted his weight from his right hand to his left. The body struck the ground hard, and Matthieu swung his left leg back under himself, ready to finish the fight.

It was then that he noticed the smoking mass of tissue that once was the left side of the assassin's face. So, that explained the laser fire. He looked up quickly to see whom had just saved his life.

The tall figure was obviously female, wearing what vaguely appeared to be a flight suit in the dim light. She stepped forward to where a beam of moonlight illuminated her face and part of the box around her neck.

"Wrenn! What... what are you doing here?" He staggered to his feet and looked around quickly before closing the distance somewhat.

"I came for you," she replied in his head, using the personal channel he had given her.

"Oh, uh, thanks, that's great,... only...", he turned slightly away from her and scratched his head, his feet shuffling as he carefully considered his words. He looked up at her sheepishly, "I can't leave."

"I know. The Gate is closed." She looked at him with a puzzled expression.

Matthieu stared at her for a few seconds. "But,... that means you're trapped here. What about the Bottle of Rum?"

"They will survive without me." She quirked a half smile at him. "Although, you apparently can't."

Matthieu followed her gaze to the body lying in front of his door, then turned back to her.

"So, you, uh, looking for a job?"

"Seems to me, keeping you alive might be a full-time position in itself. But I'm open to suggestions."

Matthieu put his arm on her shoulder, directing her away from the smoking corpse. "Well, see, as luck would have it, I've been thinking of taking this show on the road, and we could use another pilot. Let's discuss this over a drink. I know this wonderful place known for it's ambiance. Of course, that ambiance occasionally involves gunfire, but that just lends the place character. And they let me run a tab. Although, Akon may still be pissed about my smashing a couple of his tables last week..."

The pair made their way into the dilapidated city.

15 years

15 years have passed and life has been peaceful. Gawen cracks open a wine cask and using a ladel he pulls out some of the dark red liquid and takes a sip from it. Sighing happily to himself he smiles and pounds the lid back on it with a wooden hammer. Muttering to himself as he takes off the leather apron he is wearing. “Finally a suitable batch.” Most people would actually disagree with this comment. Each batch after the first three he made had sold completely.

Despite the success, Gawen has never truly been pleased with his wine. Though today was not a day to worry about any of it. Some of his larger customers were coming by today as was a friend he has not seen in a few years. Stretching a little as he pulls a shirt over his head and secures it at the shoulders with the velcro straps. The transport vehicle pulls up and Thermadors lackeys get out and proceed to load up the 10 barrels worth of bottled wine she ordered. Taking the payment, double what he normally charges, she has gladly paid each time since her first bottle.

Moving out to the vineyard and looking over the grapes that are still growing. He sighs with a smile on his face. It was days like this he actually managed to forget most of his problems and what started everything. It has been years since he had to put on his guns or to draw a single blade in an act of violence.

As he looks over his land her arms snake up his body, he tenses up a little and shoots his hands back and feels a familiar set of hips close to his. Leaning his head back and kissing his fiancee deeply he breaks the kiss to whisper. “You know one of these days I may just brain you when you do that.” A smile appears on his lips after he speaks.

Chuckling she moves around her metallic black wings shimmering a little in the noon day light she runs a finger along Gawens nose. “You know you would never actually manage to land that blow.”

Sighing again as he gives her another gentle kiss he turns his head to see the second expected guest for the day. Sighing and letting Angelia go he moves over, lifts up the small case of his last batch of wine and hands it over to the Angel messenger sent by his father. Just as he is handing over the case the messenger hands over a rather large embossed envelope. Taking the envelope from the man Gawen looks skeptically at the man. “You are fucking around with me right?” The man shrugs and then flies off back to Calenture.

Holding the invitation in his hand just staring at it Gawen shakes his head in disbelief. As he stares at the envelope Angelia swoops over him, grabs the invitation and rips it open. “Hey!” Gawen calls after her, and gives chase.

Reading the letter outloud she proceeds to evade Gawen in the sky. She had been a slightly better flyer than him but he was actually gaining a little bit on her. “Dear Gawen Sullivan, Son to the Regent Calenture, Keen eye of Calenture.” She giggles a little. “Oooo they used your full name and title too.” Her childish mocking getting Gawen to pursue her all the harder.

“Give that here, or I am gonna shot you!” Gawen calls back, as she flips over him in the air and makes a quick u turn.

Smiling she calls back “you would never do it.” She continues to read, “you have been invited to attend15 celebration of the Regent Calentures Reign on the 5th.” She pauses in mid flight but avoids Gawen again, this time she drops to about a foot off the ground. “Signed Regent Calenture. P.S Please at the very least try...” Gawen finally grabs the invitation from her and flys back to the house and lands.

As his feet touch he sees the final expected visitors. As the van pulls up Gawen begins to move towards it only to stop as Angelia almost plows him over as she lands on him with her legs wrapped around his hips. Walking somewhat awkwardly over he calls out. “Nev, how has life been treating you?”

After some consideration, I have decided that the next game I will run will be using the Star Wars SAGA system. This is a streamlined D20 system. I’ve decided to do this because I want to try said system, dissatisfaction with the Warhammer system expressed by some players, and because I wanted to run a “soft” science fiction game for a while. The players are all likely familiar enough with star wars to get the feel of the game, but at the same time it’s a huge galaxy so as the DM I don’t have to feel constrained. The basic structure of the game would involve the players being the crew and owners of a small ship with all the profits and misshapes this entails. I have some ideas on where it will go but I’m a flexible GM – if the gang turns towards piracy, who am I to argue?

The game will be on Tuesdays at my place (I live in Chinatown) running from 6:30-7:00 to 10:00-10:30 ish, and will start at the end of July or early August. Please let me know who’s interested – I need at least 3 players for this to happen, and I can’t possibly have more than 6 – there just isn’t enough room in the kitchen 

(this is being cross-posted - sorry for the multi-posts, yesterday's was probably premature)
[identity profile] ancalagon-tb.livejournal.com

After the Tears of Madiera campaign arc is over, I am going to take over GM duties and run something on Tuesday. I have done this already - I was running a warhammer FRPG (2nd ed) game with Ironphoenix, Draco and 2 other players some of you guys don't know but whom are pretty cool. If some of you who weren't in on the action last time want to join, I would be happy to have you!

This time, I'm hesitating between continuing the campaign with the same character, starting something new (a naval adventure) or - something completely different - try out the new Star Wars SAGA system (a streamlined d20 system).

If you are interested please let me know!

(Ms Danson I hope this post is ok with you)

Just to put it down in writing: I'm away on Tuesdays the 26th of June and 3rd of July, and will likely not be back in time for the 10th of July as well.

"Sir! The 5th Elite has abandoned their posts and joined with the Traitor," the bearer of bad news stood at attention in the Regent Calenture's dinning room. The immaculate angel Captain's bad timing only made things worse for him. "They are rallying others against you."

"You interrupted my dinner for that?" Calenture snapped at his Captain.

"Sir, the soldiers are rebelling."

"Only the 5th. Make an example of them."

"Have you found her?"

"No sir... the rebellion..." the Captain took a step further into the room. Just as he was about to speak further a voice boomed through the room. From over the communications system the Traitor's voice rang out its challenge.

"I, Inquisitor of Thermidor-Advisor to Thermidor-Traitor of Calenture-General of Calenture-Commander of the 5th Elite, hereby challenge Regent Calenture for control of Calenture as is our custom. Regent Calenture has failed and brought our noble race ruin. His weakness ruins Calenture and makes us weak before our enemies. He brings us death for his pleasure. This is NOT what we are. We are ANGELS. We are more than servants to his whim. We are not breed animals producing our children for his slaughter. He seeks the Oblivion of the Depths but we will not follow him there. We are WARRIORS. WE ARE ANGELs. He has forgotten what that means and no longer deserves Calenture. Come forth coward and face your judgment."

Karenth's challenge hung in the silence between Captain and Regent as the Regent considered Kanenth's challenge carefully.

"We can blast him out of the sky Sir," the Captain blurted out anxiously.

"Are you saying that I shouldn't take this challenge?" asked the Regent Calenture.

"No Sir! You shouldn't sir! The Traitor is dangerous..." responded the Captain a bit too quickly.

Calenture's temper flared. "Dangerous? DANGEROUS? I AM DANGEROUS!"

The Captain cringed, "Yes Sir. Absolutely sir... but the things they say about this Karenth..."

Calenture's fist caught the Captain square in the temple knocking the younger angel almost unconscious with its force. "I AM REGENT AND NO MERE SOLDIER WILL DICTATE TERMS TO ME."

The Captain staggered to one knee in front of his Regent and begged for forgiveness. Satisfied that his underling had been properly chastised Regent Calenture declared his intent.

"I will kill this Traitor. When I return I expect to find this little problem dealt with and you returning to the task I assigned you. Is that clear?"

"Absolutely, Sir." The Captain remained on his knees until he was certain that the Regent was gone then he painfully stood up. He was still a bit unsteady on his feet as he contacted General Karenth.

"Private Radio... He is on his way and he's angry," was the message.

"Good work... Private Radio out," came the reply.

On his way down to the command center the Captain shook out his feathers and adjusted his uniform so that he wasn't such a mess when he met his partner in this coup. Calenture's Security Chief was waiting for him in the command center.

"The anti-aircraft guns are secure. I have initiated a lockdown immediately following the Regent's exit. We are in control here." She smiled at him, "You played your part well. I was watching on the cameras."

"Good. All we have to do is wait," he replied. Everything was going according to plan.

She turned to her co-conspirator and asked, "And if the General fails?"

"Then we blast our beloved Regent out of the sky and appeal to Thermidor for help in putting down this unexpected coup," he replied in a neutral voice.

"That would waste a perfect opportunity for a young officer to advance far," she watched him closely as she spoke.

He didn't rise to the bait. That seemed to satisfy her and the two settled in to watch the battle.

Given that the weather tomorrow is posting a high of 32 plus humidex, I propose that we play at my place, with the A/C.
[identity profile] m-danson.livejournal.com
I shall be applying distance and sense specific modifiers (pg 231-232) to perception (and perception like) rolls from now on. Range modifiers do apply to PER rolls (pg 229, 245-246).

Line-of-Sight will be determined (when it is not obvious) for mental powers with a perception roll (pg 78). Range penalties apply only to the per roll on LOC powers not to the power effects. (ie If you can see it you can do it.)

Telekenisis is a ranged attack not a LOC attack and hence is subject to normal ranged modifiers, cover modifiers, and difficulty modifiers rather than LOC perception rolls.

This is a bullet question, and it refers to hollow point bullets (HP) (page 205 dark champion).

Hollow point bullets are designed to "mushroom" when they hit a target - this allows for more transfer of energy to the target and makes a bigger hole in the person. Hero models this by having HP bullets do more damage AND more stun. There are normally factory made, but as mentioned in the book it is possible to modify normal bullets "in the field" with a knife. This isn't hard - I the player could do it, and I imagine for a trained gunsmith it's child's play

Now the question is how do these home-made HP bullet work, game wise? The book says that they do "at most, 1 pip extra damage instead of 1 DC extra like normal HP bullets". I'm unclear as to what a pip of damage is - if you go from say, a 1d6 weapon and add a damage class, it's now 1d6+1 - isn't that the same as a pip? Would a 2d6-1 weapon (what I have now) become 2d6? I also note it says nothing about stun - do they do normal bullet stun or HP bullet stun?

... I should have asked for spent uranium wadcutter rounds from the (so-called) angels :P

So after thinking for a little while I came to the realization that for all we decided and agreed upon at game on Tuesday, one thing was not discussed concerning healing. That is, how often can it be used on a person.

The two ways that I see it from my research is as follows and I am not sure which one we are running with.
1. When ever the stat changes.
2. A set time period. (The 5th ed revised suggests no more than once every 24 hours. That is you can only use the healing power once on someone in a 24 hour period.)

Both of them have their flaws and advantages.

1. Flaws: Can lead to the bleeding someone to heal them. So if all we need to do is reduce the stat for healing to take effect all that needs to be done is to do some body damage and then roll again. I see this as slightly abusive.
2. Flaws: Time, when you need/want to be healed now or as fast as possible you have to wait for the healing, but this is much less abusive than the option one flaw.

So this is what I see, and would like to have an answer...time and sanity permitting of course.
[identity profile] ancalagon-tb.livejournal.com

I looked up some rule stuff that was bugging me a bit, so that next time we can do it better.

1. Explosions and other area of effect:

Roll for hit location as if it was a normal attack. We did this right when Jacob attacked with his shotgun (cone area of effect), but did it wrong when there was that huge gas-tank explosions. This avoids the pain of figuring out average armor and such.

2. On armor piercing and reduced penetration weapons:

Armor Piercing reduces defense by half for both the killing and the stun part of the damage. Reduce penetration doubles the armor vs the body damage but NOT the stun. So a weapon that is both reduced penetration AND armor piercing will do normal body damage (the 2 effects cancel each other out) but the stun part of the damage is still armor piercing.

3. On energy weapon and armor:

Most "conventional" types of armor (like say Kevlar), contrary to the little discussion we had about energy weapon, is PD/ED - this is why a flack jacket helps to survive explosions. If the GM wants energy swords (for example) to be better against armor, they should be armor piercing, half-armor piercing, piercing etc etc.

I know that we are drawing near the end of the game but it seems I need to reiterated a few things after the last couple games.

1) One person talks at a time. I can't deal with one person and have one or two others talking at me over top of my conversation. I'm not physically capable of doing that.

2) During combat you must wait for your turn to act. This includes zero phase actions such as soliloquies, perception rolls, and rules clarifications. The exceptions to this rule are if the GM asks you to do something or if you are aborting (defensive when you personally are defending yourself... see book for details).

3) Please respect other people's face time. Use notes if you need to talk and pay attention to what is going on around you.

4) I will not *argue* over rules during a game. Major rules discussions will be handled before or after game sessions. If a rules discussion will require a great deal of time to sort through I will make a snap judgment and address the rule at a later time (ie after game or between games or after I get someone to look it up). This judgment will be expedient and hence sometimes it will not be precedent making. Please bring up rules issues prior to the game or post game. I will not argue rules during a game session.

5) Players get to play their own characters only.

I think last night's battle was almost as good at the ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny! (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76CS9z9kQ44 - but it was missing trogdor (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gz1DIIxmEE) so it doesn't count).

I thought last night went very well - sure it took time, but that's what happens when you have major showdowns like that.

I wanted to know though - just how good were the Hands anyway?
