consider the following
Tim the Enchanter has a ward he likes to put on his tower door that is triggered (if you mess with the door you get zapped kinda deal). It's a nasty one, with all his power (say 30) into it.
Question one: Is Tim's power tied up in that spell until the trigger is activated? If he casts another spell, does the ward collapse?
Now, supposing the answer to this question is no.
Tim the Enchanter is taking a stroll, and a bunch of rude goblins start shooting arrows at him. Tim is feeling a bit hungover from last night and not up to a fight, so he casts a shield spell of some kind (armor, force field etc) and runs away, arrows bouncing off the shield. Some the goblins have crossbows, so he puts all his power into the shield to avoid injury. Unfortunately for him, some dastardly hafling is trying to break into his tower! If the ward is triggered and the hafling is blown to smithereens...what happens to Tim's shield? Does it goes down as his power is momentarily drained by the ward? Or does the Ward fail because Tim's power is on the phone right now, please leave a message? Or do both work?
Thanks,

Date: 2007-01-29 08:17 pm (UTC)Well I would go for the power on the tower increasing the duration of the power protecting the tower so that it is persistant, and only needs to pay the end once when casting, and then on top of that, depending upon how you want the protections to work you can have a limitation that says "untill dispelledd" or "until activated."
Now if you wanted to have two powers active upon yourself at the same time, and one is a trigger effect. I would take the triggered power, add on delayed effect and charges. This way you can "prepare" your charges number of triggered castings in a day and you can prepare them before hand and not have them interfear with your currently active spells.

Date: 2007-01-29 08:45 pm (UTC)I forgot to do a full read of delayed effect. On page 255 of the book I gave ya, it outlines the differences between triggerd and delayed effect.
When you prepare a power with triggered you activate the power and "hang" it. Pretty much it is there all of the effects have been cast and when the trigger is met, the power activates and is used.
So with the power above. From what I read the power that is protecting the the tower is already cast and just waiting for the trigger. So you have set up the power and it is all ready to go.
So from what I read when Tim's tower is messed with nothing happenes to his shield because the spell has already been cast, it is just waiting for it's trigger to occur and Tim dose not loose any end for it because that has already been paid for when he cast the spell initially. Now this is if he actually requires an action to set the trigger back up.
for the spell defending the tower the trigger adavantage would look something like this.
1/4 - one defined condition(Someone breaking intot he tower)
1/4 less - Character dose not control the activation of personal trigger
1/4 more - Trigger requires a zero phase action to reset.
All of those above numbers were gotten from page 269.

It can however be seen with magic sight and be dispelled cause it's just hangin' there waiting to trigger
