ratcatchersThis is Earth in 2029. Everything has changed.
One young Fey Prince, Serra Ensley of Ottawa, sought to fulfill her murdered father's dream of a world where Fey, Humans, and Were live together openly and in peace. She suceeded in convincing a coalition of Fey Princes to drop the Veil that protected and hid their people from human society. In March 2029 the Veil was dropped and the existance of Fey was revealed to the world. The Fey now walk openly as part of human society but the cost promises to be high.
Not all Fey Princes agreed to the Unveiling and relations between Princes are strained. As tensions grow within the Fey grow towards violence, the humans are reacting with disbelief to the aliens among them. Some, such as the pro-alien group "Please Take Us", are reacting with joy at the discovery that they are not alone. Others, such as the anti-magic protest group "Believers Against the Satanic Arts", are preparing for war.
Meanwhile the massacre at the Daly Institute in Nowhere, NFLD, and the disappearance of famed Thaumaturgist and Nobel Prize winner Dr. D'Ange has left the world shaken and questioning. D'Ange is believed to have escaped to Rome after the Nowhere incident. She is being sought for questioning.
Meanwhile in Ireland the secret war between the Green Sheilds (IRA) and the ancient Sidhe is coming to a head even as the British seek to eliminate magic in Northern Ireland. The Green Sheilds have new allies; the Fey court of Avalon and Sidhe traitors, Cathleen and Clegg Duckworth.
In Canada there used to exist a secret branch of the RCMP who regulate and control relations between humans and non-humans. They were known as the Department of Interspecies Relations a.k.a. the Ratcatchers. Composed mainly of Were and Warlocks and lead by Director Watts and Deputy-Director Danson, they were responsible for maintaining peace, order, and above all secrecy.
The Ratcatchers have been reborn as the publically acknowledged law enforcement agency known as the Department of Thaumaturgical Affairs. Thier new mandate is to enforce the laws Canada with respect to thaumaturgical crime.
Then the serial killer known as Jack escaped.
The collision between Ratcatcher methods and its new public profile was messy. The Lone Wolves have been disbanded, thousands of files are missing, Director Watts was fired, and Deputy Director Danson has been incarcerated. To make matters worse key cases have been turned over to the RCMP including the investigation into Jack's escape.
