He smelled her long before he saw her. Tasted her scent and savored it. Rolled it over his senses like a fine wine and waited. He knew her. He knew how she hunted. She was watching him. Evaluating what she saw and comparing it to to the man in her past. But he wasn't that man anymore. And she wasn't that woman.
He inhaled deeply.
She watched him from the shadows. His every movement brought back memories. Sensations buried in a long distant past awakened again. Yet she hesitated. Time changes men and her sources said that this man had changed beyond recognition. They also said that he had now returned to what she remembered. He missed her. She missed him too.
She stepped forward.
He heard her move. The breath he held flowed out into a sigh that almost spoke her name. Then she was there. Looking up into his eyes. Searching for something. He reached for her. Eyes traced the lines of her face. Fingers traced the scars on her hands by memory finding new ones in their journey. She found what she was looking for and smiled. Fingers laced with fingers. Hand in hand they strolled together in the warm spring twilight.
They spoke not at all.
There was no need.
